Fishery statistics and information systems

The activities related to fishery statistics are geared towards the implementation of national and regional fishery statistics and information system. Such a system is necessary to complement other fisheries management means and serve as a basic tool for international bodies (like GFCM) to monitor the state of the Mediterranean/Adriatic fisheries and the well-being of the whole ecosystem in the basin.

The activities performed by AdriaMed are double: the direct support to the participating countries and the indirect support through the implementation of the Project information system (see the section Databases).

The project since 1999 continues to provide to provide direct technical support to the countries for the creation/updating of databases, web-pages and the national information systems trough the establishment of national fishing fleet register “Census data”, the setting up of national catch and effort survey system and the training and enhancement of national capacity building.
Many outputs were published as contributions for the Adriatic region and for the whole Mediterranean through the GFCM and SAC and CAQ Sub-committee meetin.

Databases are available, upon request, on CD ROM at the AdriaMed Project:

AdriaMed Trawl Surveys Information Systems (ATrIS) an application created to store organize e provide basic statistic analysis tools to manage trawl surveys data collected during the AdriaMed trawl surveys (since 2001).

AdriaMed Database on Fisheries Social Survey Data (DBS) a stand alone application created to store, manage and provide basic statistic analysis tools to manage data collected during the AdriaMed Albania Social Surveys of Fisheries Sector (2003).

In addition the Project produced a CD-ROM containing the digitalized cartography of the Adriatic Sea prepared with the collaboration of the Hrvatski Hidrografski Institut (HHI) and the Istituto Idrografico della Marina Italiana (IIM).

Please contact the Project at  to request a copy of the CDROMs.
