Interactions between capture fisheries and aquaculture

A base-line data on published studies and reports on the different issues concerning the interactions between capture fisheries and aquaculture, with particular reference to the Mediterranean, was created and is being compiled, as follow-up of the FAO AdriaMed Expert Consultation on “Interactions between capture fisheries and aquaculture” held in Rome in November 2003.

Publications refer to the four fisheries dimensions (governance, ecological, economic, social), which were highlighted and discussed in the above mentioned consultation. This first version of the database mainly focuses on the ecological dimension.

These publications were selected in order to have as many as possible review papers, where the information is already gathered and commented by experts. References were obtained mainly through the ASFA (Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstracts) database, through the use of several different key words, as many disciplines are concerned with the interactions between aquaculture and capture fisheries. Other searching tools, such as cross references and main web search engines, were also used. Publications can be selected through the use of the reference tables below.

This on line database cannot be, and does not aim to be, exhaustive neither in terms of issues considered nor in terms of publications screened. A large amount of literature has been recently published on this topic, and it may yet not be included in this database, which will be periodically updated. In this respect contributions or suggestions of text papers on these issues are most welcome and can be addressed to the Project.
