ATrIS
is the acronym for AdriaMed Trawl Surveys Information
System, it
has been developed by the FAO AdriaMed project in close
cooperation with the research institutes cooperating with
the Project thus providing a flexible common environment
to standardize the trawl survey data collected in the
AdriaMed demersal trawl surveys.
ATrIS is a
computerized system developed to organize storage and
undertake the preliminary analysis of the dataset
available after the AdriaMed trawl surveys started in
2001.
The system, MS/Access based, offers some basic utilities
to interface data with the Geographical Information System
(GIS) and the possibility for easy exchange of date with
other common software systems or data format (e.g.
MEDITS). Moreover, while trawl survey data constitutes the
bulk of the data held in the system, the database design
allows for any data to be stored (e.g. ATrIS has been used
to store rapido trawl data).
ATrIS has been distributed among all the AdriaMed
collaborating institutes and external entities that
requested the application to the Project. At the moment,
eleven Adriatic research institutions use ATrIS thus
making it the common and standard database used among the
Adriatic countries.
